Baptism:
Parents wishing to have
their child baptized phone the office and make an appointment with Ann
Farlow. They will meet with
Ann and discuss the process that leads to baptism. Every second month a
pre-baptism class is held for the purpose of updating the parents in their
knowledge and understanding of the theology of baptism. Once the parents
have attended this class they have several choices regarding the baptism
of their child. The baptism may take place at any Sunday Eucharist or at
1.30 p.m. on the First Sunday of any month. It is always a joyful occasion
when families gather with a child to celebrate the child’s initiation into
the faith community.

Marriage:
Couples planning
marriage are asked to contact the parish at least six months before the
date of their wedding. They will meet with a priest who will fill out the
marriage papers, book the church, and provide them with any information
they need. It is required that couples marrying in Peterborough Diocese
attend a pre-marriage course. St. Alphonsus offers a pre-marriage course
requiring the committment of one Friday evening and Saturday all day. The dates for this course are
provided at the initial meeting. Please contact the parish office for
details. |
Marriage Preparation:
Couples planning to be married at St. Alphonsus should contact the parish
six months before the wedding date. An appointment will be made with the
couple to reserve the church and assist in the preparations. A
pre-marriage course is required. The format is one weekend- a Friday
Evening and Saturday until 7:30 PM. The next program is scheduled for May
2-3,2003. The focus is on communication skills, better
self-understanding, conflict resolution and the spiritual dimension of the
sacrament. Four couples and a priest co-ordinate the weekend.

First Eucharist, First Reconciliation &
Confirmation:
A few years ago St Alphonsus designed a unique
process in order to prepare the children for the above mentioned
sacraments. The foundation of this process is the parish seeing itself as
the sponsoring body for the children
At the same time the parish co-operates
closely with both the parents and the school. A sacramental Catechetical
Team was set up to organize and facilitate the sacramental process. A
letter is mailed out to the parents in the fall giving the details and the
rituals and dates for the various happenings. Finally, on Pentecost Sunday
the whole parish is invited to come together as one and honor all the
children who have celebrated the various sacraments.
